The researcher uses a psychological study by DeFrain (1999) and theory of love by Fromm (1963). ![]() The secondary data are taken from other sources such as journals, articles, and internet sources. The primary data are taken from the novel of If I Stay by Gayle Forman. There are two kinds of data in this research: (1) the primary data and (2) the secondary data. The subject of the research is a novel entitled If I Stay by Gayle Forman, and the object of the study is focused on the characterizations of the main character, the expression of family members’ love for Mia, and moral values of the novel. In this research, the researcher uses the qualitative method to analyze the novel. This research is categorized into library research. The objectives of the study are: (1) to describe the characterizations of the main character in the novel If I Stay by Gayle Forman, (2) to describe the expression of family member’s love for Mia in the novel, (3) to describe the moral value that can be taken from the novel.
